Aldi Is Selling A Dupe Of This Gourmet Canned Tuna For Under $3

Aldi has become a go-to chain for shoppers who want to try fancy new cuisine on a smaller budget. With that in mind, it has also created dupes of several expensive high-end food brands. Its latest offering is a variation on a pricier product from a gourmet outlet — Fishwife's gourmet tinned tuna.  

Part of Aldi's Fremont Fish Market line of products, the chain is currently selling two different types of canned yellowfin tuna — one with olive oil and lemon, the other steeped in olive oil and chili. Both retail for only $2.75 for a 3.2-ounce can, which is quite a comedown in price compared to what's offered by Fishwife. 

Fishwife's Albacore Tuna with Spanish Lemon retails for $6.99 per 3.2-ounce can at big chains like Target. Its Albacore Tuna in Spicy Olive Oil also costs the same amount and is sold in the same sized tin. If you want to buy the fish from the company's official website, the prices are steeper, as they don't sell tins individually — they only purvey its fish in bundles of three for $32, plus you have to pay for shipping. The Aldi Aisle of Shame Facebook community turned out to rejoice Aldi's latest fishy offering. "I've never tried Fishwife. At $6.99 a can, I thought that was a little steep to pay for one can of tuna, but now that Aldi has a dupe for $2.49 a can. Yes, please, I can't wait to try it," a customer said. Other commenters piped up to declare the tuna is delicious, with one customer claiming to have bought 10 cans in one go. Other tuna lovers mentioned how Aldi's option works in many canned tuna recipes.

But there were also a few detractors in the group. "Fishwife is well worth the price. I'm all for dupes but nothing can beat a can of Fishwife. They source everything ethically, work with the countries they get the fish from, pay great wages to workers," one customer proclaimed. Plenty of other comments supported Fishwife's superiority in quality to Aldi, even at the higher price. Customers also mentioned the various Fishwife seafood flavors. At the end of the day, your wallet and taste buds will make the decision for you, but Aldi's more affordable price makes the taste testing more palatable.
