Baskin-Robbins Debuts Valentine's Day Cake As Love Potion #31 Returns

Whether or not people's heart is full this Valentine's Day, Baskin-Robbins is absolutely hoping their stomachs will be. That's because the popular ice cream brand – which originated in 1945, and now has more than 7,500 locations around the world, according to a recent press release – is debuting a new offering designed to appeal to those caught up in the romantic spirit of the holiday, while also bringing back a long-time favorite which offers solace to those for whom the course of true love has not exactly run smooth.

Love Potion #31, which premiered in 1995, was originally "created to provide sweet relief to broken hearts on Valentine's Day," recalls Baskin-Robbins. Those who have tried the seasonal ice cream specialty during the past 28 years may have found comfort in its raspberry swirl-laced white chocolate ice cream scoops, as well as its chocolate chips, and decadent chocolate-covered waffle cones.

The love potion, whose number seemingly alludes to the company's traditional 31 flavors, is returning for Valentine's Day 2023, Baskin-Robbins recently announced, but it's not coming back all by its lonesome. Even if the "potion" was meant to soothe people feeling down, finding a literally sweet heart to spend the holiday with seems like a piece of cake for this ice cream. Scratch that – it's a whole cake.

Baskin-Robbins' new Valentine's Day cake can be personalized

When you imagine Valentine's Day chocolates, you probably picture bite-sized truffles in a heart-shaped box. But Baskin-Robbins is inviting people to share a Crazy for You Cake instead. The heart-shaped dessert and Love Potion #31 (sold in both chocolate-topped cones and quart-sized tubs) are now available at Baskin-Robbins locations and may also be ordered through the company's website and mobile app, Baskin Robbins recently announced.

Adorned with rosettes made from buttercream, dripping chocolate, chocolate fudge, and an Oreo cookie, it apparently aims to be eye candy without actually being candy. Crazy for You Cakes can be customized with the addition of a favorite ice cream flavor, including Love Potion #31, the company notes, but such orders should be placed at least two days prior to the pick-up date, per Baskin-Robbins.

Not to pry into Love Potion #31's relationship history, but this is not the only cake it has invited to spend V-Day together. Previously it has been paired with Baskin-Robbins Conversation Heart Cakes. While communication can be vital to a strong relationship, it's not clear how deep the conversations could have been when the cakes displayed such messages as "Be Mine" and "XOXO." Now, Baskin-Robbins is trying to get people talking with even fewer words on a cake. But maybe it thinks the offerings will speak for themselves. Both of Baskin-Robbins' themed Valentine's Day specialty items will be offered for a limited time only.
