Barn Vacation Rental Trend

We didn't chose the barn life, the barn life chose us

Barns: not just for hoedown parties and animal lodging anymore. According to HomeAway's 2018 trend report, this alternative accommodation was booked 55 percent more often in 2017 than the previous year. Think of this group-friendly option like glamping but with lofted areas and way more space to spread out. Here are seven of the many remodeled barns you can call your (temporary) home.

① Biwabik, Minnesota

Whether you're there for alpine skiing in the winter or a summer cycling adventure, this comfortable home is a choice home base. The bright, modern kitchen has everything you need to whip up a meal to serve in the booth-style breakfast nook.

② Fort Collins, Colorado

If this impeccably clean barn looks like it couldn't possibly have ever housed animals, that's because it hasn't: The 1,800-square-foot home was built in 2016. Take in the mountain views, modern kitchen and on-site trails.

③ Garden City, Utah

From the outside, this bright-red home couldn't look more like a stereotypical barn. But go inside, and you'll find a tree running up the center, a child-pleasing slide and a massive kitchen. Its proximity to Bear Lake makes this stay highly family friendly.

④ Maple, Wisconsin

It'd probably be easier to list what this 320-acre property doesn't have. Grab 20 of your closest friends and spend a weekend soaking up the incredible views, sandy beaches, and wood-fired sauna and hot tub. At night, gather around the fire on the many comfortable seating options or venture to the game room equipped with shuffleboard, ping-pong and more.

⑤ Saugerties, New York

The Hudson Valley has never been so inviting. The main area has a sweeping open layout, a double-sided fireplace and even features a painting of American Gothic on the wall. There's also a renovated, heated Airstream out back, should you prefer to get even closer to nature.

⑥ Walla Walla, Washington

Going on a wine trip? Many wineries are within walking (and biking) distance of this restored barn. Take your bottles to go and enjoy them on the patio outside while you watch the sunset.

⑦ Woodstock, Vermont

Take a fall trip to this newly renovated 1850s barn, centrally located near all the outdoor activities your heart could desire. Light the fire pit at night and stuff yourself with s'mores until you drift off to the sounds of the stream below.
