Navazos-Palazzi Brandy De Jerez Limited-Edition Brandy

A new brandy comes to New York

August might seem like an odd time to have brown spirits on the brain.

But when Nicolas Palazzi brings a new brandy to town, well, you adjust.

Known for hunting down outrageously delicious artisan Cognacs, the Manhattan-based importer recently shifted his sights south–to Spain.

His latest offering: Navazos-Palazzi Brandy de Jerez, a limited-edition single-cask brandy produced in collaboration with the sherry savants at Equipo Navazos ($78 for 375 ml). Finished for four and a half years in Oloroso sherry casks, the brandy was bottled in March and is being released today at Chambers Street Wines in Tribeca.

The inaugural batch of 720 bottles–of which 620 made it to these shores–eschews the oaky sweetness often found in Spanish brandy and instead offers a dry profile. If you've tried brandy de Jerez before, this will taste quite different. If you haven't, you'll be hooked.

Some serving options: Sip some tonight in front of an oscillating fan; park it on the shelf until fall or try the surprisingly seasonal Don't Shenaut cocktail (see the recipe) created by Jim Meehan of PDT.
