All December long, we're bringing you the recipes, tips and tricks you need to Feast your way through the holidays, no matter how you celebrate the season.
While the holiday season is all about giving, it's also the time for giving back.
Companies, restaurants and organizations all across the country and around the world participate in holiday gifting through various programs and charitable donations. We're inspired by every act of kindness and are especially grateful for those who do it all year long.
Eamon Rockey has been involved in Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry for many years. While he works a vigorous schedule as COO of Maison Dellos and general manager of Betony, he always takes time to work with the organization that aims to end child hunger in America. "After opening Betony and being approached by Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry, I jumped at the opportunity and have looked forward to finding new, more creative ways to build the relationship," Rockey says.
Working in an industry surrounded by food, the topic of hunger is always top of mind. As Rockey shares, "Having grown up in and around restaurants my entire life, I’ve learned that while offering dining experiences to our guests is in and of itself a noble pursuit; to be able to translate those efforts into benefit for those less fortunate in our community is a responsibility that we should recognize."
According to No Kid Hungry, nearly one in five kids struggles with hunger in this country, which means roughly 13 million kids don't know where their next meals are coming from. "Working with No Kid Hungry has shown me that anyone can make a difference in the life of a hungry child," Rockey says.
If you are looking for another way to give back this holiday season, No Kid Hungry is selling beautifully designed holiday e-cards, with all of the proceeds going toward ending childhood hunger in the U.S. and providing healthy food to kids in need. You can also make a tax-deductible gift in someone’s name at NoKidHungry.org. As Rockey points out, "Remember, one dollar can connect children in need to 10 meals, so every gift counts."
