5 Spots to Drink Whiskey Right Now

Among them, Greenpoint's new Moonlight Mile

"There are some kick-ass whiskies being made in New York," says Garry Embry.

The Louisville, Kentucky, native is the owner of Greenpoint's Moonlight Mile, an all-American whiskey bar pouring more than 140 delicious selections from around the country.

Naturally, there's an impressive lineup of Kentucky bourbons, but the selection stretches well beyond the Bluegrass State.

Three recent additions to the list come from the Hudson Valley's Hillrock Estate Distillery. Embry's pouring their hard-to-find single malt whiskey, double cask rye and Solera-aged bourbon ($19 per ounce).

American whiskey isn't Embry's only passion--the self-professed lover of rock 'n' roll, has stocked the bar's (free) jukebox with a couple decades' worth of tunes. There are plenty of songs by the Rolling Stones, which is fitting, considering Embry named the bar after their haunting track, "Moonlight Mile."

But this American whiskey den isn't the only bar to offer a great pour; here are four of our favorite spots to sip brown spirits right now, in no particular order:
