Jim Beam Has a New Smart Decanter That Pours Shots on Command

Imagine if Alexa had a saucier sibling

Smart home gadgets like Amazon Echo and Google Home have come a long way, but they haven't quite gotten to the point where they'll pour a shot of your favorite booze on command.

That's the party trick Jim Beam—yes, the bourbon maker—is promising with its new smart decanter dubbed JIM. Voiced by the Southern drawl of the distillery's seventh-generation master distiller, JIM will store your favorite spirit, in addition to answering your questions via a set of cheeky comebacks. Ask the decanter what the weather is like, and JIM will reply, "I have no idea, but I do know it's the perfect weather to enjoy bourbon." And, of course, just say the magic words, "JIM, pour me a shot," and the decanter will actually dispense a perfectly measured pour into your glass. It's a pretty nifty feature, especially for just $35.

True, it won't stream your favorite playlist or order your groceries, but until Alexa learns how to pour us a shot of liquor, we'll gladly swoop up a JIM this holiday—once it's back in stock, that is.
