Top Ten Burgers In San Francisco | Tasting Table SF

Our favorite burgers in SF

A good burger hits all the right pleasure points.

SF's best run the gamut from high-end fancypants burgers to greasy, dripping, not-quite-fast-food satisfaction.

Here are our ten favorites in SF, in no particular order.

Nopa in Nopa

This burger ($14) exemplifies grass-fed perfection: The ground-in-house beef shines, topped with a slice of melted cheddar and tangy pickled onions. We like ours on the bloody side of medium-rare.

Marlowe in SoMa

There's a little lamb added to the beef blend in the Marlowe Burger ($14), lending a note of gamey funk; caramelized onions, sharp cheddar, bacon, and horseradish aioli take it to the next level.

WesBurger (prices and location vary)

Wes Rowe's burger pop-up has become one of the most sought-after in the city. His creations always feature heavily salted skillet-fried ground brisket; toppings include everyone from homemade queso to smoked tomato jam.

4505 Meats in the Mission

The Best Damn Cheeseburger ($8.75) lives up to its name. It starts with a thin patty of grass-fed beef, topped with Gruyère cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, onions and a healthy slathering of secret Shh! Sauce. Your favorite fast-food burger, but 100 times better.

Garaje in SoMa

The Drive In Cheeseburger ($6) satisfies the most primal of burger cravings. a ?-pound patty shines in salty, beefy goodness; toppings include iceberg lettuce, Thousand Island dressing, grilled onions, pickles and, of course, American cheese.

Rickybobby in Lower Haight

How to take a basic burger to the next level? The Beef and Bacon Burger ($12) has bacon ground in with the beef. Toppings are simple and straightforward: American cheese, house-made mayo, ketchup, onions and pickles complement the crave-worthy meat.

Rosamunde Sausage Grill in the Lower Haight

This Tuesday-only burger ($6.50) is a standby. The smoky, char-heavy patty tastes of backyard barbecues, but better; toppings include cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and ketchup and mustard.

The Corner Store in the Mission

Every bite of The Corner Store Burger ($15) is a perfectly balanced affair. Niman Ranch beef is topped with sharp aged cheddar, pickled red onion, bread and butter pickles, garlic aioli and a house-made bacon jam.

Zuni Café in Lower Market

As classic as the cafe itself, the lunchtime-only burger ($15), grass-fed beef is served on rosemary foccacia with aioli and house-made pickles. Topping choices include heirloom tomatoes, Beecher's flagship cheese and grilled onions.

Mission Bowling Club in the Mission

The Mission Burger ($15) is all about big, beefy flavor. The half-pound aged, granulated patty is the kind you dream about; it's topped with caper aioli, Monterey Jack cheese and grilled onions.
