Denver Supports Syrian Restaurant After Attack
The family lost 10 members to last week's attack
Mahmoud Yasser Kassir, the owner of Damascus Grill, a staple of the Denver dining scene for more than 20 years, suffered an immense loss last week. Ten family members in Syria were killed in bombings in Douma, a city in the region of Ghouta.
Neighbors and fans of the restaurant's three locations have banded together to support the family, Eater Denver reports. A post on neighborhood site Nextdoor shared the tragic news and asked the community to pitch in:
Amal Kassir, the daughter of Mahmoud and a poet, offered an update on Facebook saying that the family closed the restaurant for a few days in mourning, continuing, "In the days that followed, we received overwhelming and heart warming support from the Castle Rock community. We would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to everyone."
According to the Nextdoor post, a fund has been set up to help with burial costs. "For those interested, please make checks to: Kassir Family Relief Fund."
