Sugarfish Is Opening In NYC
L.A.'s hit sushi spot Sugarfish is opening in New York City
New York is having a Japanese food moment with Tokyo's high-end Sushi Ginza Onodera, cult ramen chain Ichiran and udon specialists Tsurutontan all opening this year. Now joining them is acclaimed Los Angeles-based sushi spot Sugarfish, Eater reports. The chainlet is known for its impeccable fish and super-affordable (we're talking $32) omakase, or as the restaurant's menu calls it the "Trust Me" option.
Chef Kazunori Nozawa and and co-owner Jerry Greenberg have been looking for a space in the city for years and finally inked a deal for a large two-story space in the Flatiron District. They'll take over the Moore Brothers wineshop, dedicating the first floor to a 40-seat dining room and upstairs possibly to a terrace and waiting area. The team is hoping to keep prices as close to those in L.A. as possible but with some increase expected.
The restaurant should open at the tail end of the year. Meanwhile, the team is looking for a space for KazuNori, its hand roll spin-off project, which could land in NYC sometime in 2017.
