It's easy to associate NYC's NoMad Restaurant and Bar with extravagant cocktails and roast chickens stuffed with black truffles and foie gras. But come Sunday, the team, who also happens to run Eleven Madison Park, will take a decidedly more casual route to dinner with Mamma Guidara's—their weekly spin on old-school Italian American cooking.
An homage to New York's classic red-sauce joints (one of which was run by co-owner Will Guidara's father), the limited-run dinners have been giving guests a glimpse of what it would be like if their Sundays were filled with pots of slow-simmered gravy, platters of chicken Parm and wicker bottles of smooth Chianti.
Christmas Eve will be the last time you'll be able to pull up a chair to Mamma Guidara's table, and the pop-up will be celebrating its final meal in true Italian fashion: with a Feast of the Seven Fishes. After you've passed around the basket of garlic bread and eaten your fair share of Caesar salad, make room on the checkered tablecloth for an onslaught of seafood, including baked clams, whole-roasted branzino and shrimp fra diavolo flecked with spicy chile flakes. And, of course, no meal at Mamma G's is complete without a generous portion of tiramisu.
