National Ice Cream Day 2018 Best Flavors

Or, how to get away with eating frozen dairy for every meal

Fun fact: The day of the year when Americans consume the most pints isn't St. Patrick's Day, but National Ice Cream Day.

OK—we might have just fudged a few details there, but if you're going to celebrate the upcoming summer holiday the right way, you're going to need to stock up on a few of our favorite cartons. Luckily, Whole Foods is having a sale on Talenti and a few other brands, so you can snag two for as little as $5.40.

Grab some friends—perhaps those whose names are Ben, Jerry and Jeni—and do right by National Ice Cream Day: In this case, that means finding an ice cream fit for every meal of the day. Preferably, in these flavors.

Breakfast: Cumberland Farms' Blissful Breakfast Club

With a maple syrup-flavored base, blueberry swirl and boulders of Belgian waffles, this pint covers all the essential brunch food groups. Just consider all the dairy as an extra serving of milk.

Lunch: Tilamook's Creamy PB&J

As long as it's tucked inside a middle school brown paper bag, you have every right to dive in to this creamy, malted peanut butter ice cream swirled with Concord grape jam. Bonus points if you perform an act of PB&J-ception and turn it into an ice cream sandwich.

Happy Hour: Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams' Frosé Sorbet

Though this pear- and watermelon-flavored frosé is good enough to down on its own, do as founder Jeni Britton Bauer does and float an oversize scoop in a pool of sangria or your favorite summer cocktail.

Dinner: Salt & Straw's Jeweled Brown Butter Rice Gelato

Chances are we'll never be able to snag a reservation at Sara Kramer and Sarah Hymanson's L.A. restaurant, Kismet, so we'll do the next best thing: Pencil in a dinner date with this pint inspired by their famous Jeweled Crispy Rice. Roast rice and brown butter act as a velvety backdrop to verjus-soaked currants and a dark pumpkin seed caramel.

Dessert: Ben & Jerry's Phish's It's Ice... Cream

In the pantheon of Ben & Jerry's flavors, nothing can hold a candle to Phish Food—except the runner-up that almost beat it out when the flavor first debuted in 1997. Phish's It's Ice... Cream involves a school of fudge fish swimming in an ocean of caramel malt ice cream, accompanied by almond toffee and a caramel swirl.

Bonus: Talenti's 15th Anniversary Pints

Chances are you're going to be craving a salad for tomorrow's lunch—in which case, ferry it to the office in one of Talenti's limited-edition, 15th-anniversary pints featuring artwork inspired by the company's history. You'll just have to, you know, finish the pint first.
