Best New Hotel Nashville 2019

Nashville's newest hotel isn't haunted, but there's certainly no shortage of spirits. The Vandyke Bed & Beverage made its debut last month in the Music City's Five Points district—and it's definitely not your traditional bed and breakfast.

Each of the property's eight rooms and suites embodies a unique booze-inspired design, ranging from rum to Champagne. The idea for the luxury boutique hotel comes from the Nashville-based team behind Geist, a bar and restaurant that's one of the city's most popular establishments. They tapped local interior designer Brooke Prince to bring the quirky concept to life in a way that's both fun and tasteful.

All of the themed spaces (rum, tequila, gin, vodka, wine, beer, Champagne and whiskey) perfectly embody the aesthetic of each spirit. The light and airy Tequila room exudes laid-back, desert vibes with the help of potted cacti and Aztec prints. In the Gin suite, expect modern design touches and mid-century charm that feels reminiscent of the Mad Men era. Meanwhile, the lavish Champagne suite features French design details, pops of gold and rose, and a private terrace overlooking downtown and the hotel's lively outdoor courtyard. But for the "top shelf" experience, book a stay in the sprawling Whiskey suite; a loft-like retreat that has a full kitchenette and sleeps six comfortably.

"Vandyke Bed & Beverage is inspired by the authentically local neighborhood of Five Points and its musicians and artists," Tinsley Dempsey, the hotel's Property Manager, says. "The vision for the hotel and bar was to create a bespoke experience for the cultured traveler and local Nashvillians alike. [Guests can] stay-cay or vay-cay in the middle of a vibrant district that's within walking distance to award-winning restaurants, local music, hip boutiques, coffee shops, and more," she says. 

Dempsey also played a key role in the overall design process, curating the Vandyke's impressive art collection. Guests will notice an eclectic assortment of one-of-a-kind works and commissioned pieces, all made by local creatives. The program highlights a diverse group of photographers, illustrators, and fine artists, all of whom live in the East Nashville area. The main focal point is a large bar installation by Dustin Hedrick that pays homage to Nashville's legendary musical heritage by featuring some of the city's most iconic performers.

Don't be surprised if the hotel's theme puts you in a drinking mood. If so, you can always stop by the on-site bar for a pre-dinner cocktail or creative nightcap. In addition to the eight aforementioned spirits, their extensive drink menu offers even more variety, including options like cognac, mezcal, pisco and more. Plus, guests can snack on a range of bar bites ranging from a local greens salad to a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. The property also serves a full brunch menu, including classics like brioche cinnamon rolls, eggs benedict, and chicken and waffles.

Just don't forget to pack a form of identification—this hotel is strictly for guests ages 21 and up.
