Celebrate Krispy Kreme Doughnuts' 79th Birthday

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts celebrates its 79th birthday

Happy birthday, Krispy Kreme; 79 sure looks good on you. To celebrate the company's special day, Krispy Kreme is offering customers who buy one dozen doughnuts at regular price the chance to purchase a second dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for just 79 cents.

The company's love for the doughnut dates back to 1937, when it first opened its doors in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, selling doughnuts to local grocery stores. Flash-forward to 2015 for the company's 1,000th store opening in Kansas City, Kansas.

There's no doubt about it: People love their doughnuts and have been fans of Krispy Kreme for many years. Even other brands look to collaborate with the iconic empire. Recently, Cheerwine, a Salisbury, North Carolina-based soft drink company, launched a  Cheerwine Kreme soda.

Even Nike and Krispy Kreme (two words you never thought you'd see in the same sentence) joined forces to serve up a new menu item back in May during the Eastern Conference Finals. They created a special-edition design of a Krispy Kreme-themed shoe: the Ky-Rispy Kreme inspired by Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving.

Those who plan to visit their local Krispy Kreme location are encouraged to share their photos using the hashtag #KKBday.
