There’s no better way to warm up on a cold day than with a steaming cup of mulled apple cider. This recipe makes it super easy by throwing everything into a slow cooker—almost no effort required. The best part is the slow cooker doubles as a punch bowl for a holiday party.

Enjoy a mug of this cider as is or try adjusting the recipe to your liking. You can play around with the sachet by adding your favorite aromatics, such as ginger or black peppercorns. And if you’re feeling inspired, feel free to spike the final product with a little bourbon or rum.

Slow Cooker Mulled Cider

Recipe from the Tasting Table Test Kitchen

Yield: 16 cups

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 4 hours

Total Time: 4 hours and 5 minutes


1 teaspoon whole cloves

1 teaspoon whole allspice

½ teaspoon juniper berries

4 green cardamom pods

2 cinnamon sticks

16 cups apple cider

¼ cup dark brown sugar

1 orange, thinly sliced

1 lemon, thinly sliced


1. On a piece of cheesecloth, combine the cloves, allspice, juniper, cardamom and cinnamon, and tie together with butcher’s twine to form a sachet.

2. Place the sachet in a slow cooker with the remaining ingredients and cook on high for 4 hours. Let cool slightly, then serve.
