Romaine Lettuce Is Being Linked to a Deadly E. Coli Outbreak

You might want to stay away from your beloved Caesar for the next few months: Over the past seven weeks, nearly 60 people in the U.S. and Canada have fallen ill from a particularly nasty strain of E. coli. 

According to Consumer Reports, authorities from the CDC suspect the outbreaks are closely linked, with Canadian officials having already pinpointed the cause of their infections due to tainted romaine lettuce. Meanwhile back in the U.S., five people have already been hospitalized, and one person has died. 

And while those in the 13 states where outbreaks have occurred (stretching from California to Vermont) should be particularly careful, Consumer Reports is warning everyone to stop eating romaine until the FDA can formally identify and recall the specific greens that have been affected.
