Bark and Bite
How to make chocolate bark for the holidays
There's always that one person on your Christmas list who already has everything—but don't cop out and settle for a gift card again this year.
Chocolate bark is an endlessly customizable (and extremely simple) gift for the holidays. Heat a 12-ounce bag of semisweet chocolate chips for 1 minute in the microwave, adding time as needed until all the bits are melted. When the chocolate is smooth, pour it onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and use an offset spatula or the back of a spoon to spread it into an even layer. While it's still warm, sprinkle on any add-ins you want, then let it chill in the refrigerator until set.
If it tastes good with chocolate, it'll taste good on bark—but here are three of our favorite combinations. Do Christmas in Hawaii with toasted coconut flakes and macadamia nuts or channel the King with peanuts, banana and bacon. Or for a sophisticated (and color-appropriate) version, decorate the top with pistachios and pomegranate seeds.
The best part? No one will know if you keep a couple of pieces for yourself.
