What to Do in NYC This Weekend

Between Derby Day and Cinco de Mayo, there's plenty of food events to hit up

Between Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby, there are plenty of celebratory eats to be had in the city this weekend. Start Cinco off at a garden party before heading up to Harlem for Derby Day, and then take part in a unique spring cooking class.

Friday, May 4

Cinco de Mayo Garden Party

Yes, this celebration is technically a day early, but it's hard to say no to rooftop views, unlimited specialty cocktails like frozen rhubarb margaritas and crispy pork tamales.

Saturday, May 5

Mad. Sq. Eats Opening

Head to the Flatiron District for opening day of this popular food market, which includes more than 20 vendors like local favorites Roberta's pizza and Baked Cheese Haus.

Cinco de Mayo at Hester Street Fair

This popular Lower East Side fair is paying homage to the holiday with a whole roster of grilled meats, courtesy of L'estudio, which will be cooking up legs of lamb, pork al pastor, duck sausage and more.

Kentucky Derby Party at Saxon + Parole

The race itself lasts only two minutes, giving you plenty of time to feast on all-you-can-eat Southern comforts like roast pig, fried chicken and shellfish from the seafood bar. Don't forget to wash it all down with unlimited mint juleps.

Harlem Derby's Run for the Roses Gala

You don't have to be down South to celebrate Derby Day. Watch the race at Harlem staple Red Rooster while sipping on Southern cocktails before heading downstairs to Ginny's Supper Club for more libations.

Sunday, May 6

Chocolate Fest

Satisfy your sweet tooth with a visit to this festival hosting more than 20 New York confectionaries that specialize in everything from doughnuts to vodka to truffle shots.

Spring at Home

Not to disagree with Miranda Priestly, but florals for spring are most definitely groundbreaking, especially once they're added to breakfast. And that's exactly what you'll be doing at this Korean culinary class: learning to make flower-studded hwajeon pancakes among other dishes.
