What To Do In NYC This Weekend April 20 To 22

Heat things up at the Hot Sauce Expo before visiting the Queens Night Market

The weather is still struggling to warm up, but there are plenty of food events this weekend that are bringing the heat. Start your weekend by testing your taste buds at the New York Hot Sauce Expo before heading to Brooklyn to crown the best homemade tacos.

All Weekend

NYC Craft Beer Festival

Cheers to the weekend with an unlimited sampling of more than 150 craft beers, ciders and meads from 75 breweries. There's also going to be a beer hall of food, games and vendors supplying beer-related buys.

Murray's Cheese Boot Camp

School's back in session as you learn the chemistry of cheese making, dive into its history all over the world and even take a field trip to a cheese-aging cave. You'll become the expert at every dinner party after this weekend-long immersion course.

Friday, April 20

Food Styling Mobile Photography Class

Step up your Instagram game with this food photo lesson, where photo professionals and casual foodies alike are welcome and the only requirement is a camera. Feel free to take just your iPhone for optimal "phoneography" tips.

Saturday, April 21

6th Annual NYC Hot Sauce Expo

You can test your tolerance during the Guinness Book of World Records' pepper-eating contest, but if you're not willing to burn away taste buds, enjoy some craft cocktails instead between sampling hot sauces.

Taste of Battery Park

There's going to be something for everyone at this downtown event, including rolls from Blue Ribbon Sushi and old-fashion pizza pies from Harry's Italian. Take the little ones as well to fill out their own food "passport" and don't forget to support Public School 89 at its third annual lemonade sale.

Official NY Chili Cook-Off

Make the trek to Staten Island for the state-official chili contest and sample the competition's diverse offerings, like returning champion David Ronge's salsa and green chili.

Queen's Night Market

This food market doubles as a performance space for dozens of artists to showcase their talents. Between acts, make sure to try eats from more than 50 on-site vendors, including more adventurous bites like insect noodles from Bold Foods.

Sunday, April 22

Brooklyn Taco Takedown

Head over to the Brooklyn Bazaar to taste the tacos of local home cooks before voting for your favorite at this 15-year-old tradition.
