Free Entrance To National Parks MLK Day

There's no excuse for not having plans this long weekend

Dig up your heftiest parka, because while you might still be recovering from an extra-frosty January, there's no better time to pay a visit to your closest national park—especially this long weekend.

Entrance to all of the country's 58 national parks will be free this coming Monday, January 15, in honor of Martin Luther King Day. According to Travel + Leisure, it's only one of four other days this year that you won't have to pay to take in Yosemite's breathtaking peaks or Glacier's alpine lakes. The remaining no-admission days fall during National Park Week on April 21, National Public Lands Day on September 22 and Veterans Day on November 11.

Visitors should note, however, these dates cover only the cost of admission—other activities, such as grabbing a campsite or signing up for guided tours, still require a fee. But with the possibility that your favorite park could double in cost in the foreseeable future, you'll know where you can find us this weekend.
