Southern Food At Loosie's Kitchen In Brooklyn
Loosie's combines photogenic decor with down-home fare
What makes a restaurant stand out in a neighborhood filled with endless options? It isn't just about having a great menu. It's also about creating a setting that feels one of a kind. This is definitely the case at the gorgeous Loosie's Kitchen in Williamsburg, the sister restaurant to ever-popular Loosie Rouge and the new Loosie's Cafe.
Loosie's Kitchen takes an eclectic approach to its decor, a welcome change of pace from the industrial-modern look that has become ubiquitous in restaurant design. The restaurant offers two distinctive seating areas to choose from. If fresh air calls your name, there's patio seating (designed by co-owner Damien del Rio) anchored by a large communal table made from a reclaimed slab of wood and paired with schoolhouse-style chairs. The space is partially enclosed by a corrugated plastic ceiling that creates a more intimate feel without obscuring natural light, while bright murals and potted plants throughout add welcoming touches of color.
Inside, that airy vibe is replicated with whitewashed walls and an open layout. Individual tables offer a little more intimacy, a feeling also created with warm overhead lighting. There's a hefty dose of "recycled" decor, a choice that isn't just eco-friendly but precisely what makes the design feel so unique. You'll also find quirky vintage touches throughout, from the overhead bookshelf to the old-fashioned tandem bike that's the frequent subject of Instagram pics.
This attention to design doesn't mean that the food suffers. Instead, the decor helps craft a casual, down-home feel that complements the Southern menu—the epitome of comfort. Loosie's fried chicken is a must, as are the Anson Mills grits and Nutella beignets. The drinks menu is worth a look, especially for the sheer volume of organic, biodynamic and sustainable wines.
Loosie's Kitchen is located right under the Williamsburg Bridge. The best way to get there? With the new all-electric BMW i3. Like Loosie's, the thoughtful design of the BMW i3 is key to the overall experience. Following the sustainable focus of the innovative eDrive system, the interior is appointed with environmentally conscious elements like renewable eucalyptus and upholstery made of a blend of recycled materials and wool.
