The Best Restaurant Openings In Boston, New Orleans And Beyond Fall 2016

When it comes to the largest cities in the country—New York, L.A., SF and more—we've got you covered with heaps of fall previews and restaurant recommendations on our DINE app. But there are a handful of openings beyond those city lines that are so exciting, we simply couldn't overlook them. Here are the restaurants worth a trip this fall.

J.C. Holdway Restaurant in Knoxville, Tennessee: Appalachian food is finally coming into the light, and one of the most anticipated openings of the region is Joseph Lenn's J.C. Holdway. Lenn worked for a decade at the acclaimed Blackberry Farm before striking off on his own for this restaurant. Lenn's promised that much of what he cooks will be done so over an open hearth and early menus may include buttermilk biscuits with pork belly and jam and a squash salad with trout and cornbread. The team is aiming for a Labor Day weekend opening. 

Pabu in Boston: Prolific West Coast chef and restaurateur Michael Mina is headed east this fall with his izakaya and sushi bar concept, Pabu. While the menu at the new location hasn't been released, the team says there will be a focus on East Coast seafood (the SF original serves dishes like grilled squid; skewers of chicken meatballs, skin, wings or hearts; and dish-of-the-moment poke). There are also a few steak options for those who don't love to eat things from the sea.

Toups South in New Orleans: Isaac Toups is joining a small but growing number of chefs operating restaurants inside museums, in this case the Southern Food and Beverage Museum. The team will serve lunch and dinner most days and brunch on Sundays. The menu's being ironed out for an October 1 opening, but some confirmed items include smoked goat tamales, buttermilk biscuits with crab-fat butter and a pork chop stack with espresso aioli.

Marsh House in Nashville: New Orleans culinary titan John Besh is overseeing all of the food and beverage at the new Thompson hotel in Nashville. The main event, culinarily speaking, is Marsh House, a Southern seafood restaurant. Buttressing the restaurant are Killebrew Coffee, which will serve coffee and lighter fare during the day, and a rooftop bar. The hotel's working with designer Parts and Labor, who designed The Grey in Savannah, so hopefully the space will be a stunner.

Tasty Made in Lancaster, Ohio: Rumors of a burger-focused concept from Chipotle floated around for quite a while before the team officially announced that it will open its first burger restaurant this fall, serving burgers, of course, as well as fries and milkshakes.
