Top City Weekend Getaway Eat & Shop Options
On a short vacation, time is of the essence. Hit the following neighborhoods for culinary multitasking: You can eat and shop in one fell swoop.
New York City: This metropolis is a shopping capital, but for food you should head to the West Village. Hit the cheese temple Murray's for a wedge of the C-Local, then grab some bread from Bien Cuit. Find some specialty salt at The Meadow and pick up a bottle of wine at MCF Rare Wines.
Chicago: The Fulton Market area is known for restaurants, but there are plenty of takeaway options too. Purchase sausages and charcuterie from Publican Quality Meats, then head to Stephanie Izard's new Little Goat Bread and grab some of the chef's pantry staples (a little bit of the Burton's maple syrup from Indiana is a great vinaigrette addition).
Los Angeles: After you've braved the coolness of Abbott Kinney, head to nearby Rose Avenue, which is lined with new food-focused venues. Start at Groundworks and pick up a bag of house-roasted coffee beans; then walk toward the beach, making stops at Superba Snack Bar, for an Italian take on fried chicken; Venice Beach Wines, for crostini and a bottle of the proprietary house rosé; and The Golden State, where you can stock up on vintage tees and local tabletop finds.
