The Beer Temple With Bevy Of Brews | Avondale, Chicago

Brews from around the world at The Beer Temple

Chris Quinn is attempting to represent every beer style at his new Avondale shop, The Beer Temple.

Shelves are stocked with brews from Denmark, Scotland, Japan and beyond–over a dozen countries in all. We asked Quinn to guide us through the store.

For easy drinking: Trumer Pils ($10 per six-pack) Pilsner is "really, really delicious, but must be drunk fresh," says Quinn. Salzburg's Trumer set up a duplicate brewery in Berkeley, CA, creating the best of both worlds: the freshness of domestic beer with the character of an authentic Austrian pilsner.

A middleweight sip: Victory Headwaters Pale Ale ($11 per six-pack) Made with citra hops (the star of Three Floyd's Zombie Dust), this Pennsylvania-made brew is lively, refreshing and balanced, with tropical fruit notes.

To toast the season: Avec les Bons Voeux ($11 for 750 ml) This golden-amber ale from Belgium's Brasserie Dupont was originally brewed for Belgian drinkers to toast the New Year. This fruity, earthy super-saison is just as fine for a mid-month cheers.

For the snifter: JW Lees 2010 Harvest Ale ($10 for 9.3 ounces) Manchester brewer JW Lees has combined England's postprandial drinks of choice–barley wine and fortified wine–by aging barley wine in sherry and port casks.
