People's Pops Popsicle Shop In Chelsea Market Featuring Sour Cherry And Star Anise Popsicles
People's Pops sets up shop in Chelsea Market
After having a blazingly successful season at the Brooklyn Flea and other pop-up venues last summer, our favorite frozen treat purveyor has found a permanent home.
Yesterday, People's Pops partners Nathalie Jordi, David Carrell and Joel Horowitz opened a brick-and-mortar outlet in Chelsea Market.
The space features a counter topped with 5,000 Popsicle sticks (painstakingly glued on by hand) and a new kitchen (aka "the flavor lab"), where the trio has been experimenting with new ingredients like Brooklyn Soda Works ginger beer and Fine & Raw bonbons.
And despite a recent spate of bad luck–Jordi got hit by a car while biking (she was fine, the bike was not), then totaled the company van (she was fine, the van was not)–they opened right on time, with a freezer full of rhubarb and star anise, raspberry and cream, and sour cherry-blackberry pops.
In celebration of the shop's grand opening (and to ensure much-needed good karma), they're handing out free shave ice to Tasting Table readers all day today.
