Schnitzel And Things Food Truck | New York City, NY

Schnitzel & Things is a cutlet above the truck fray

Midtown Manhattanites, take note: A new type of street meat has landed in Brooklyn, and soon it's coming to a sidewalk near you.

Jared Greenhouse, the former chef-owner of Cobble Hill's Sorrel restaurant, and Oleg Voss, a former Vienna-based banker, have teamed up on Schnitzel & Things, a bright yellow truck that serves Austrian-style schnitzel (crispy fried cutlets of thinly pounded meat) and all manner of "things."

After experimenting with different types of breading, the duo chose Japanese panko to create the crispiest crust possible for their plate-size pieces of protein. Each schnitzel can be eaten as a sandwich ($7) or on a platter ($9), which comes with a lemon wedge and your choice of sides and condiments. In addition to traditional pork schnitzel, the truck offers more unconventional combos like cod schnitzel with ginger-scallion relish and chicken schnitzel with red-pepper coulis.

If schnitzel's not your thing, Schnitzel & Things serves a mean bratwurst-and-sauerkraut sandwich ($4) and a variety of vegetarian sides ($3), including crisp marinated cucumbers, earthy lentils and a classic Austrian potato salad.

Right now, the truck is hopping around Brooklyn (follow it on Twitter), but it'll soon make lunch stops in Midtown and, later, late-night weekend jaunts to downtown Manhattan.
