Earlier this year, Yelp reported an increase in searches for these so-called experiential dining options. The rising trend is notable for its "multisensory" approach to dining, now often used as a way for restaurants to set themselves apart from the competition. These dining experiences can include surprising locations or participatory elements. From tamer options like dinner theaters to eating on top of a glacier, there are plenty of once-in-a-lifetime meals to be had. Regardless of the unique elements surrounding the meal, it definitely goes beyond simply eating. And, it seems the trend is going to be continuing strong into the new year.
Destination dining is in, casual dining is out
In a recent Yelp report outlining the top 2023 food trends, the site predicted a surge of experiential dining in the coming year. According to the site, as pandemic rollbacks continue, people are more eager than ever to not only get out of their homes, but try something new. Many restaurants are cashing in on this opportunity to create new destination dining options, which will come with even more one-of-a-kind views, activities, or entertainment, while serving up quality meals to guests. The company reports that recent searches for underwater restaurants were up 263%, while searches for dinner theaters were up 109%. A few other food trends to look out for in 2023 are slushies, pickle-flavored everything, oxtails, and more.
