Your Next Salt & Straw Order Might Taste Like Your Favorite Veggies

With scoop shops all along the west coast and in Florida, Salt & Straw's unusual flavors like Strawberry Honey Balsamic with Black Pepper, Pear and Bleu Cheese, and Arbequina Olive Oil have built somewhat of a cult following. The ice cream company was founded by cousins Tyler and Kim Malek, according to their website. Tyler bought the ice cream makers, Kim bought a cart, and their vision took off.

If you aren't local to one of their locations, their ice creams can be ordered online, with a minimum purchase of 5 pints. They are shipped in an insulated box full of dry ice so they stay cold and creamy for you to enjoy.

Now, Salt & Straw is adding to their unusual flavor list, reports Delish. In addition to their year-round flavors, they will be selling seasonal ice cream flavors with ingredients you may not have ever considered pairing with the sweet treat: vegetables.

Sweet with a savory twist

Salt & Straw is closing out the summer with their new line of "Veggies You Crave" ice creams. These flavors blend various vegetables with an ice cream base and other sweet elements to highlight the more subtle, sweeter flavors in the veggies, creating unusual, unique ice cream flavors.

The five flavors are Carrot Cake Batter with Pralined Hazelnuts, Charred Corn Curd, Cotija, and Tajin, Spinach Cake with Chocolate Tahini Fudge, Green Fennel and Maple, and Red Chili Curry and Makrut Lime Crispy Rice, which is vegan. While some of these flavors — like the Carrot Cake Batter with Pralined Hazelnuts — are more commonly associated with sweet treats, others — like the Charred Corn Curd, Cotija, and Tajin — are a fresh, funky twist that may surprise you.

If you want to try these flavors, act fast — they'll only be available through September 2. You can grab them at any of your local Salt & Straw scoop shops, or order delivery from their online store.
