Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Is Bringing A Classic NYC Appetizing Shop To LA

An iconic New York City restaurant will soon be crossing coasts thanks to a buzzy new NYC-inspired pop-up shop. According to Variety, the hit Amazon Prime show "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" is gearing up to host a two-day Los Angeles pop-up to celebrate the recent release of its fourth season, complete with nostalgic Jewish delicacies and vintage-inspired photo ops.

The series, which is set in Manhattan in the 1950s, follows the life and career of Miriam "Midge" Maisel (played by Emmy Award winner Rachel Brosnahan) as she transitions from Upper West Side housewife to single mother pursuing a career in stand-up comedy.

The "Making LA Marvelous" pop-up, which will be open to the public on June 18 and 19, will feature recreations of sets from the show as well as replications of New York City landmarks, including the century-old Lower East Side institution, Russ & Daughters. The pop-up will bring the historic appetizing shop — which is known for its bagels, lox, caviar, smoked fish, and other Jewish specialities — to the West Coast for a limited time. In addition to sampling Russ & Daughters bites, Maisel fans will also have the chance to take in hourly jazz performances at a recreation of the legendary Blue Note Jazz Club, try their hand at mahjong tables, and take photos in a Coney Island-inspired photo booth.

The LA pop-up isn't the first time Amazon has partnered with popular Jewish delicatessens to promote the show. In 2019, the streaming service partnered with Postmates to give away free "Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" Meal Packs, which featured pastrami on rye sandwiches (from Canter's Deli, Lenny's Deli, Art's Deli, and Lenwich), pickles, black and white cookies, and Steiner tomato juices.

The year before, the show revived the famed Carnegie Deli (which shuttered in 2016 after nearly 80 years in business) for a week-long NYC pop-up that dished out pastrami and turkey sandwiches, knishes, cheesecake, and black and white cookies (sold at 1950s-era menu prices) in a nostalgic deli atmosphere complete with jukeboxes and vintage waitress get-ups, according to Vogue.

Now, Russ & Daughters will join the ranks of some of the most celebrated delis coast-to-coast at the show's latest pop-up. The "Making LA Marvelous" pop-up will take place at 8175 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, and is free to the public on a first come-first serve basis, per Variety. All guests are required to provide proof of COVID vaccination or a negative test for entry, and are encouraged to RSVP via the pop-up website. Petticoats, saddle shoes, and other '50s-inspired attire is optional, but would certainly make Midge Maisel proud.
