Dolly Parton's New Collab Is Inspired By Some Of Her Favorite Desserts

Duncan Hines has gone country with a new line of southern-style cake mixes and icings inspired by Dolly Parton's family recipes. The cultural icon is known for sharing her voice and sage words of down-home wisdom with her fans, and thanks to a new partnership with Duncan Hines, Parton can also give folks a taste of her favorite desserts.

According to Women's World, Dolly grew up poor in the rural Appalachian region of Tennessee in a family with 12 children. That's a lot of mouths to feed on a tight budget, and Dolly's mother had to learn how to stretch a dollar and make every meal count. Desserts like Dolly's favorite banana pudding were only made on special occasions and have since been sweetened by the Country Queen's sentimental memories of her family gathered around the dinner table.

"I have always loved to cook and, growing up in the South, I especially love that authentic Mom and Pop kind of cooking," said Parton in the announcement of her new line of Duncan Hines cake mixes and frostings (per Food & Wine). Products inspired by the Backwoods Barbie include Southern Style Banana Cake Mix, Southern Style Coconut Cake Mix, Creamy Buttercream Frosting, and Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. The cake mixes feature Dolly's recipes on the back so fans can enjoy the country-style desserts that Parton holds so dear.

According to The Kitchn, the cake mixes and buttercream frostings are just as strong in flavor as Parton is in attitude and come in equally flamboyant packaging. We would expect no less from a Dolly-inspired dessert mix. Bakers who want to feel even closer to their favorite southern icon can recreate the sweet treats from the personal recipes on the back of the box. It takes more time and ingredients but is said to be worth the extra effort as it makes your box cake mix taste homemade.

The mixes and frostings will hit store shelves in March, but for fans who just can't wait to try Dolly's banana cake, a limited edition baking set is available on the Duncan Hines website. The Dolly Parton Baking Collection includes cake mixes, frostings, a spatula, a tea towel, and recipe cards. It is available on January 26 for those who want to be the first to try out Dolly Parton's southern-style dessert faves.
