Jean-Georges Vongerichten Plans Hotel Restaurant On The LES
Jean-Georges Vongerichten is deep in empire-building mode this spring. The chef, who will hopefully (finally? maybe?) open his veg project, ABCV, this summer, is now also working on a restaurant, a market and coffee shop, and a garden in Ian Schrager's upcoming Public Hotel on New York's Lower East Side, Bowery Boogie reports.
The team's application to the local community board (which doesn't hand out approval for liquor licences so easily) calls the market-and-coffee shop bar a "reimagined canteen" and says the restaurant will offer "Authentic wood-burning pizzas, flatbreads, pastas, and other unique and original gourmet Italian specialties." A proposed menu (check it out below) hops around from crispy squid with chili dipping sauce to pizzas to a tagine with black sea bass—so really almost anything could end up on the final menu.

No word yet on when that project will land, but in the meantime, Vongerichten is also working on a market and restaurant in South Street Seaport.
