Video: How To Make Dulce De Leche In A Can
A foolproof way to make caramel sauce at home
You can turn a can of sweetened condensed milk into golden caramel sauce-without even opening it first.
Remove the can's label and use a pair of tongs to carefully place the can in a pot of boiling water. Make sure it's completely covered by the water and let it simmer for 2 to 3 hours, checking every 30 minutes or so to make sure the water still covers the can. The longer it's in the pot, the darker and more viscous your sauce will be. Remove it sooner if you prefer a light, toasty color.
Let the can cool to room temperature before using a can opener to remove the lid and reveal what's likely the easiest condiment you'll ever make. It's the perfect topper for ice cream and brownies, but go ahead and dip vegetables in it as well for a sweet snack-we won't tell.
