How To Get Your Hands On French's Limited-Edition Mustard Skittles

Just in time for National Mustard Day (August 5th), French's Mustard has launched the collaboration that foodies everywhere have been waiting for (or not). Introducing: mustard-flavored SKITTLES. (Yes, really.) Before you rush to your local supermarket, these exclusive golden-hued beauties can't be found on store shelves. Fans can only get the limited-edition mustard candy by winning it online or by attending one of three pop-up events.

According to an official press release, French's and SKITTLES are hitting the road on an East Coast tour of Atlanta, Washington D.C., and New York City. The "Mustard Mobile" (a yellow vintage bus topped with giant mustard SKITTLES) will roll into Ponce City Market in Atlanta on Monday, July 31, then head to Washington D.C.'s City Center on Wednesday, August 2, before ending the tour in NYC's Hudson River Park on Saturday, August 5. All events will last from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attending fans can win branded swag and try Mustard SKITTLES for free.

West Coast foodies, don't despair. For a chance to win a fun-size pack, fans can enter online via the McCormick website until August 5. 700 lucky fans will win a free snack-size pack with no purchase or payment necessary. But, the question folks everywhere are asking still remains: What do mustard-flavored SKITTLES taste like? Ro Cheng, Marketing Director at Mars, says the candy "combines [French's] tangy mustard flavor with [SKITTLES'] iconic chewy texture," via the press release. Whether that sounds enticing or off-putting, fans can decide for themselves.

Sweet with a side of shocking

According to a review from The Daily Meal, the mustard candy has no scent at all, but the flavor delivers massively: "A spicy blast of horseradish engulfs the mouth, before giving way to the mustard taste we've all come here for. Except the mustard presented is more akin to French's Dijon than its Classic Yellow" with a sugar rush at the end.

Instagram snack review account @snackolator echoes the sentiment, giving the tangy candy a 9 out of 10 for flavor accuracy, but concluding, "I'm not going to lie to you, they got the flavor down. But as the famous quote goes, 'Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.'" One TikTok prankster commented, "Put them in a bowl of normal [S]kittles."

It's been a big year for unlikely sweet-savory flavor pairings. Ice cream giant Van Leeuwen made a potato-forward malted milkshake and friesĀ flavorĀ and ranch-flavored ice cream with Hidden Valley. Instagram users sounded off in the comments section of @snackolator's review, theorizing about future SKITTLES collabs like Tabasco, Miracle Whip, Coke, or Ketchup. After French's Mustard Donuts of 2022 and its mustard-flavored ice cream of 2019, "we knew we had to outdo ourselves," says Valda Coryat, North America Vice President of Marketing for McCormick & Company, via the press release. (Indeed, many foodies would likely say "mission accomplished.")
