The Ingredient That Will Take Frozen Tater Tots To The Next Level

Tater tots are not just for kids. Sure, they go great with the beige diet those small tykes love so much, but these little frozen, deep-fried, grated potatoes that look like miniature cylinders are also a blank canvas that both novice and pro chefs love to make their own. Whether you are making the best tater tot nachos, creating tater tot topped burgers for family and friends, or using them as a base for a deconstructed Philly Cheesesteak, tater tots are a food that lends itself to culinary creativity.

But if you are in a hurry and looking for an easy way to upgrade this nostalgic go-to, there is one ingredient that will take frozen tater tots to the next level, and it is a seasoning that even celebrities like Chrissy Teigen are a fan of: Lawry's Seasoned Salt. A blend of salt, sugar, herbs, and spices like paprika and turmeric, this simple and beloved concotion is a yummy and easy way to spice up many foods, including tater tots.

You can also make your own seasoned salt

Tater tots with Lawry's Seasoned Salt is not a new concept. In fact, if they remind you of a menu item at fast food eatery, you wouldn't be too far off. Taco John's Potato Oles are very similar in taste, only this fast food chain opted for round disks over cylinders. Luckily, if you want to create this deliciousness at home, you can. To do so, you should shower your tots with a sprinkle of the seasoning blend prior to placing your baking tray filled with tots into the oven.

If you don't have any Lawry's seasoned salt in your spice cabinet, not to worry. You can make your own DIY copycat version. You will need some salt, sugar, and cornstarch to get the party started. Additionally, you will need celery salt, paprika, onion and garlic powder, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Simply mix everything together and get to sprinkling.
