Jose Cuervo's Fruity New Fan-Created Margarita Flavor Is Coming To Stores

Triple sec, tequila, and lime juice: the simple combo that has cemented itself as an unshakeable fixture in the cocktail world. Of course, we're talking about the margarita — and we aren't the only ones talking about it, either. Folks have been enjoying them since at least 1938, which might seem like a long time but pales in comparison to the history of Jose Cuervo. The iconic brand has been producing tequila for more than 250 years and was the first to pen the tagline "Margarita: It's more than a girl's name" in 1945. It didn't take long for the public to understand what the hype was about. By 1953, the margarita was named Esquire's "Drink of the Month."

The margarita fanbase continues to live and thrive and can celebrate the drink on February 22, its designated holiday, with a new product from Jose Cuervo. It's making its way to stores nationwide, and was created with margarita fans in mind. Introducing Tropical Paradise: a new flavor of bottled ready-to-drink margarita.

It's packed with mango, peach, strawberry, pineapple, and orange juice. Starting in February 2023, fans can find bottles of Tropical Paradise at select retailers nationwide. But, believe it or not, this new flavor didn't come from the minds behind Jose Cuervo — it was created by a fan.

Fans can participate in a contest to create a flavored margarita mix

On February 22, 2022, Jose Cuervo gave away a whopping 22,222 limes in honor of the holiday. But, it also rolled out its "Marg Shake-Up" contest, a chance for fans to create the brand's next margarita flavor. In 2022, the winner was Deron C., who created Tropical Paradise as an homage to the flavors he grew up surrounded by.

Now, Jose Cuervo's contest is coming back, and fans can submit their own flavor ideas like Deron. Simply choose a base flavor, four additional ingredients, and a "wildcard" ingredient of your choice. Then, slam a catchy, marketable name onto your creation, and send it off to be entered.

According to a press release, the Marg Shake-Up contest kicks off on National Margarita Day, February 22, and lasts until March 22, 2023. One winner will be selected for the $50,000 cash prize, and their flavor will line store shelves across the country. The second and third-place winners will receive $25,000 cash each. From the entire pot of applicants, 12 contestants will be released to the public for a vote to determine the winner. Innovative fans can visit the Marg Shake-Up website for more information on how to submit an entry.

Thirsty to get some ideas brewing? Other bottled ready-to-drink margarita flavors already in Jose Cuervo's repertoire include the Golden Margarita (available in strawberry, grapefruit, and rosé), the Golden Rosé Margarita, classic lime, and a line of canned sparkling margaritas. What flavor will be next? Maybe yours.
