Oreo's New Flavor Is A Bit Full Of Itself

Few snacks share the popularity, diversity, and world renown of Oreos. Longtime fans won't soon forget Oreo's "Middleman" mascot of 1975 who sang, "Go ahead and fiddle with the Oreo middle cause there's not a better middle you can fiddle with." From vintage promotional ceramic cookie jars to a limited edition neon pink and green cookie collab with Lady Gaga, Oreo has been keeping foodies on their toes for more than a century. According to Oreo, today fans in more than 100  countries enjoy the chocolate-cream cookies, and U.S. fans alone put away more than 20 billion Oreo cookies each year. This week, the parent company for Oreo, Mondelez International (the name behind such household-name snacks as Belvita, Cadbury, Chips Ahoy, Tate's Bake Shop, Sour Patch Kids, and many others), announced big news for its global fanbase.

Oreo is no stranger to imaginative flavors, such as Chocolate Hazelnut, Toffee Crunch, Birthday Cake, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Caramel Coconut, and the brownie-cookie-fusion "Brookie-O," which have captured fans' attention time and time again. When the limited-edition Oreo x Pokémon collab of 2021 sold out, the cookies (imprinted with one of 16 different Pokémon characters) sold on eBay for thousands of dollars each, reports NPR. Now, Oreo is introducing another new flavor, and it's promised to be "The Most Oreo Oreo" ever. Big Oreo fans (and fans of big Oreos), this is your cue to get excited.

Oreo-inception

Per the press release, the new Oreo is stuffed with another Oreo. (Yes, really.) How can it be? Two signature chocolate Oreo cookies are filled with "Most Stuf" creme — the thickest slab of Oreo creme yet. If you've ever tried a Double Stuf or even a Mega Stuf Oreo before, they don't even touch the Most Stuf pack level. And here's the kicker — the Most Stuf creme is loaded with ground-up Oreo cookies.

The new Oreo-Oreo even comes with its own lore. Earlier this week, the official Oreo Twitter account teased the new flavor, tweeting, "What if OREO cookies existed in an alternative universe? Unless..." Now, Oreo is rolling out a virtual metaverse called the "Oreoverse" in collaboration with Martha Stewart. It's a series of Oreo-themed online games with names like "Rocket Stuf" and "Stack Stuf." Oreo is taking "playing with your food" to another level. And if that detail made you roll your eyes, unroll them and knuckle up because there's a $50,000 grand prize for top players.

Where does Martha Stewart come in? The home-cooking icon will debut her playthrough of the Oreoverse at the official Oreo page on Instagram on January 30 — the same day that the Most Oreo Oreo flavor will officially hit grocery store shelves. Until then, the new flavor is available for presale via the Oreo website.
