Grubhub's Most Popular Dish Of 2022 Is A Delivery Classic

Grubhub just announced its retrospective findings of national ordering trends and eating habits this year. As we bid 2022 adieu, chances are good that you'll opt for a night at home this New Year's Eve, according to a press release from GrubHub that notes one national trend for 2022 reigned supreme: comfort.

Combing through millions of delivery orders, Grubhub concluded that every day should feel like a casual Friday. Folks preferred a cold one in front of the TV, as opposed to painting the town red this year. We get it! There's just too much pressure coming at you from all directions. It's no wonder publications like Healthline are encouraging you to breathe, and find your happy place.

And, when it comes to how America found its happy place best, GrubHub nods to the layers we'll perhaps snuggle up with by the fire as Ryan Seacrest counts it down on New Year's Eve. But, we're not talking about that quintessential ugly Christmas sweaters and hot cocoa kind of night in. America's favorite classic comes layered and juicy this year, and at times spicy too.

While layered dishes such as tiramisu and baklava took honors in Grubhub's most-ordered desserts category (per the release), it was a certain little donkey who stole the show. As snug as a bug in a rug, and layered to the hilt in ingredients in which we find comfort, rolling in as the most ordered dish for 2022: the burrito!

2022 was the year of the burrito

2021 was the year of the Impossible Cheeseburger, according to Grubhub's "Taste of 2021" report. In 2022, the burrito jumped from the number eight spot to number one with more than four million orders (via press release). Clearly, 2022 has been a burrito-ful year for most of you, whether you ordered the standard version wrapped in a tortilla or enjoyed the fillings as a bowl. But, when you weren't feeling it, other classics followed suit. Cheeseburgers and cheese pizzas nipped at the burrito's heels as the second and third most ordered dishes.

To celebrate Grubhub's most ordered dish of 2022, the release announced that Chipotle will give $5 off orders of $20 or more for Grubhub+ members during the month of December with no promo code necessary, and up to one redemption allowed daily per diner through December 31, 2022.

Who knows? Maybe you'll go out this New Year's Eve after all. But, with findings like these, it's likely that Grubhub will hear from you. Go ahead and get comfy and enjoy that cheesy goodness in the comfort of your own home, because 2023 is coming at you soon enough.
