The Reason Magic Chef Air Fryers Were Just Recalled
Whether you prefer the more traditionally fried foods, like chicken, or the more unusual, like Oreos, deep fried foods are a go-to comfort food for many. The Food Institute reports, citing information from Mintel Menu, that fried food cravings are actually on the rise: The number of fried menu items jumped up 5% across three quarters in 2021, and, according to The Wall Street Journal, restaurants used their deep fryers so much, the calls for repairs doubled. As for home chefs, more than 40% of Americans now own air fryers.
Air frying can be a great way to get the crunch you crave on foods like French fries, onion rings, chicken, and more. Since the cooking process relies on a convection oven-like cooking process, it cuts down on the amount of oil that would be used in a traditional frying process, making your foods lower calorie and cutting out fat content (via WebMD). Because air fryers are designed for home use, budget-friendly models have made them a popular kitchen appliance.
Unfortunately, two Magic Chef air fryers were just recalled due to a potentially dangerous issue.
Using this air fryer could be dangerous
Two Magic Chef Air Fryer Digital Air Fryer oven models were just recalled due to overheating risks, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The black and white models, which feature the model numbers MCAF56DB and MCAF56DB, respectively, have been recalled due to overheating components in the machines. Though no injuries have been reported yet, this increase in temperature poses a risk to users and could cause burns or even a fire in extreme cases.
Anyone in ownership of this air fryer is advised to discontinue use immediately. Customers who still have their receipt can send the proof of purchase to NewAir on its recall registration page. The air fryer was sold between July 2018 to September 2020 at various retailers.
