Everything You Need To Know About The Albertson's Seafood Recall

A new food recall posted by Albertsons Companies has the potential to impact countless shoppers across the U.S. According to the FDA website, some of the grocery juggernaut's seafood products were determined to contain potentially harmful allergens not disclosed on the ingredient lists.

"Consumers who have certain food allergies or severe sensitivities run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products and are urged not to consume these items," the company said in the release. Despite the allergen concerns, as of now there have been no reports of allergic reactions or illnesses as a result of consuming the recalled products.

The products in question include a trio of ReadyMeals seafood products sold in 12-ounce plastic containers with four compartments, including the ReadyMeals Shrimp Cooked with Cocktail Sauce (UPC code 23463800000), which had undeclared allergens of crustacean (from shrimp) and fish (from anchovy). The ReadyMeals Crab and Shrimp with Cocktail Sauce (UPC code 23253500000), which has undeclared allergens of crustacean (from shrimp and crab), egg, fish (from pollock, whiting, and anchovy), wheat, and soy, has also been recalled.

The recalled products were sold at numerous grocery chains across the U.S.

The third recalled product is the ReadyMeals Snow Crab Legs Imitation Surimi (UPC code 23463900000), which has undeclared allergens of crustacean (from crab), egg, fish (from pollock, whiting, and anchovy), and wheat. All of the affected products are marked with sell-by dates up to and including July 18.

The recalled products were sold at a number of grocery chains owned by Albertsons Companies, including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Eagle, Balducci's, ACME, King's, Pak 'N Save, Shaw's, Carrs-Safeway, JewelOsco, Star Market, and Andronico's Community Markets.

The ReadyMeals products were distributed to stores in 25 states, including Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming, and in the District of Columbia.

Customers who have purchased one of the recalled products — particularly those who are allergic to one of the undeclared allergens contained in the seafood — are encouraged to return the products to their place of purchase for a full refund. Any customer concerned that they are experiencing a potential allergic reaction or illness as a result of the products should seek medical treatment immediately. Additional details and images of the recalled products can be found on the FDA website.
