Reykjavík Food Walk is 2022's top Tripadvisor food experience

Nordic cuisine has been edging its way into the global spotlight for the last decade or so, thanks to the pioneering work of Copenhagen's Noma (via Newsweek). And while it hasn't garnered as much attention, the Icelandic food scene has been growing significantly. According to All Things Iceland, before the 1980s there weren't a ton of restaurants in the island nation because going out to eat wasn't all that common outside of special occasions. Since then, Iceland has grown into a top global destination, per NPR, and exploring the local foodways has become one of the best ways to enjoy the land of ice and fire — proven by the Reykjavík Food Walk's number one ranking on 2022's Tripadvisor food experience list.

During the roughly three-hour tour, Reykjavík Food Walk guests enjoy the sights and sounds of the city while trying out a variety of its most famous foods. The tour stops at sites like the Hallgrimskirkja church, Harpa Reykjavík Concert Hall, and the Arnarholl Statue to discuss Iceland's culture and history (via Tripadvisor). While viewing these important city landmarks, guests will also taste foods like Iceland's free-roaming lamb, skyr yogurt, pylsar (or Icelandic hot dogs), and ice cream, all made by local businesses.

Costing about $120 per person and with over 4,550 five-star reviews on Tripadvisor, exploring Reykjavík – and learning about all the cultural history and unique foods it has to offer — may be the perfect experience for the travel-starved or just plain hungry.
