The Massive Amount Of Burgers White Castle Has Sold Since It Opened

Their distinctive "Original Sliders" may not be as big as most restaurant burgers, but boy has White Castle sold a lot of them. With National Hamburger Month right around the corner (it's celebrated in May each year), White Castle revealed, via a recent press release published on PR Newswire, that during its 101-year history it has sold a combined 22 billion Sliders through its restaurant chain, and another six billion courtesy of its retail division.

White Castle is commemorating its milestone 28 billion Sliders sold in conjunction with the monthlong celebration of all things hamburger, and is planning some special events and promotions that pay tribute to its rich history and enduring popularity. The first White Castle was opened in 1921 by founder E.W. "BIlly" Ingram, where the small square Sliders were sold for the princely sum of five cents apiece. As of 2022, there are around 349 locations in 14 states.

"This is a memorable moment for White Castle, and what better time to celebrate than National Hamburger Month," said Jamie Richardson, White Castle vice president, in the press release. "We played an essential part in the introduction of the hamburger over 100 years ago. It's rewarding to see our numbers climb, reinforcing our role in the enduring popularity of the hamburger."

White Castle will be offering free Cheese Sliders on Slider Day

In 2014, Time Magazine dubbed the Original Slider the "Most Influential Burger of All Time," per the press release. And what better time to celebrate this legacy than during National Hamburger Month? White Castle will be celebrating its own National Slider Day on May 15, offering free Cheese Sliders to anyone with a digital coupon. Hint: Become an email subscriber or pay attention to White Castle's social media channels if you want to reap the benefits of this delicious offer.

Four days after its annual Slider Day, White Castle will be inducting a new class into its Cravers Hall of Fame. White Castle founded this exclusive club in 2001 to reward its most loyal fans, which it refers to affectionately as Cravers. The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place May 19 at the chain's headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, the press release announced, and will enshrine 10 new members.

White Castle is also celebrating the 35th anniversary of its retail division this month, which was originally launched in 1987. As mentioned earlier, the retail division has sold six of the 28 billion Sliders, with robust sales leading the chain to finance a $27 million dollar expansion to its manufacturing plant, the Dayton Daily News recently reported.
