Best Buy Is Recalling Over 700,000 Air Fryers. Here's Why
Air fryers are very popular with home cooks because they can be used to prepare so many tasty dishes and produce crispy fried food with far less oil, but as with all cooking appliances, air fryers should be used with caution. NBC News states that over 100 reports of major issues with Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens have Best Buy recalling over 770,000 units.
Best Buy recalled the appliances after 68 U.S. consumers and 36 Canadian consumers reported that their Insignia air fryers had overheated to the point that they either caught on fire, burned, or melted during regular use. Seven of those cases cited minor property damage, and there were two cases of injury reported as well. In one case, a child's leg was burned as a result of the malfunctioning appliances.
The fryers involved in the recall include the Insignia Digital Air Fryers, Insignia Analog Air Fryers, and Insignia Digital Air Fryer Ovens, all of which were sold either online or at Best Buy stores between November 2018 to February 2022. Consumers are advised to immediately discontinue use and return defective units to Best Buy for a store credit of $50 or more, depending on the original cost of the fryer.

Air fryer fans love cooking everything from pizza to vegetables in the versatile appliance but might have to return them as The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission identified and recalled Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens for posing a fire hazard and risk to consumer safety. Best Buy, a major retailer of the air fryers, is asking consumers to immediately stop using the fryers and return them to the store.
The recall is specific to air fryers and air fryer ovens sold at Best Buy with model numbers NS-AF32DBK9, NS-AF32MBK9, NS-AF50MBK9, NS-AF53DSS0, NS-AF53MSS0, NS-AF55DBK9, NS-AFO6DBK1, and NS-AFO6DSS1. The Insignia name is displayed on the top or front of the fryers, and the model number can be found on the rating label located on the bottom of the unit.
Best Buy is also contacting all known buyers to instruct them on returns or provide pre-paid shipping boxes with return labels. Consumers don't need the original receipt to proceed with the return. The fryers were also possibly purchased through eBay and Google, so be sure to check the model numbers of any Insignia air fryers or air fryer ovens in the kitchen.
