With inflation skyrocketing, Russia's invasion of Ukraine wreaking havoc on the global oil supply (via Forbes), and post-COVID fuel demand skyrocketing, the national average price for a gallon of gasoline is routinely over $4 a gallon.

Given the bite that gas prices are taking out of consumers' pocketbooks, the folks at Krispy Kreme aim to ameliorate the situation with their latest promotional offer, which was announced on its website. Every Wednesday from April 13 to May 4, 2022, the price of a dozen original glazed doughnuts will match that of the national average price for a gallon of gasoline as determined the preceding Tuesday. The Beat The Pump deal is available at its U.S. locations in-store, drive-thru, and online. The goal is to add a little sugary cheer to those feeling the sting of gas prices.

The promotion will give scores of Krispy Kreme fans a new reason to hope for prices at the pump to fall. But even hovering around $4, gas prices are still cheaper than the regular price of a dozen doughnuts, which retails for $7.99. The special price will be posted on their website weekly and across their social media feeds.

A history of giving back

This isn't the first time Krispy Kreme has leveraged the allure of their doughnuts to positively impact the world. Earlier this year, it partnered with the American Red Cross to offer free boxes of doughnuts to those who donated blood during the ongoing national shortage. In the press release announcing the special offer, Krispy Kreme said that it hoped not just to drive immediate donations but to raise awareness that replenishing the blood supply is a constant need.

Krispy Kreme has long used the appeal of their doughnuts to help communities across the nation. Launched in 1955, Krispy Kreme Fundraising provides organizations a delicious way to raise money via doughnut sales. Schools, churches, sports teams, and more can use in-person or digital campaigns for their effort, and reap 50% of the profit from every box of donuts sold. According to the company website, in 2021, Krispy Kreme Fundraising brought in $37 million for participating organizations.
