Front Café

After years of ambitious new cafés ballyhooing their single-tree coffees roasted in one-cup batches on bicycle-powered 1930s machines, we've reached a new era in which erudite new roasters are quietly opening cafés in odd corners of the city. Front Cafe, operating out of a warehouse near Dogpatch, has the requisite baristas in vests and ties, artisanal pastries and micro-lot Colombian coffees roasted in house. The Colombian pour-over we tasted recently was smooth and subtle; we're looking forward to returning for the cold-brewed ice coffee.
