La Santaneca de la Mission

This Salvadoran restaurant, unrelated to the equally excellent La Santaneca in the Excelsior, makes wonderful pupusas, pregnant with melted cheese and shredded pork, crisped just so around the edges. The caldo de res (beef soup), with great chunks of vegetables and handmade tortillas on the side, is equally comforting, and you should really try the restaurant's nutty version of horchata, made with sesame and gourd seeds.
