City Bakery In Detroit

The NYC-based shop's famous hot cocoa made the trip, too

A famous NYC bakery has made its second home in Detroit. Opened just last month on the ground floor of the Fisher Building in New Center, City Bakery is equal parts a community coffee shop, bakery, café and catering company.

According to the Detroit News, founder Maury Rubin will be sourcing local Michigan ingredients for this Motor City outpost, from the produce to the dairy to the organic grains and flours.

"City Bakery is a neighborhood bakery with a worldwide reputation," Rubin says. "We could not be more excited to call the Fisher Building our home."

This new home is where Detroit residents can get a taste of what made the NYC bakery renowned to begin with: savory pretzel croissants, a variety of sandwiches and pastries, and that famous silky hot chocolate topped with a Rubik's Cube-sized marshmallow.
