Where To Get Breakfast Tacos In NYC

When you need something other than scorched java to fuel you through rush hour on the Q train, head to Tex-Mex joint Javelina's new Upper East Side location, where they're handing out free breakfast tacos all week long.

Your reward for leaving the apartment a little earlier is a warm tortilla cradling crispy potatoes, scrambled eggs, cheese and bacon. And even if you wake up a little past the spot's 8:30 a.m. opening time and miss the 100-person cutoff, you still have the rest of the week to try again.

Javelina deserves a visit outside of morning's rough hours though: A late-night happy hour starting at 10 p.m. eliminates the panic of trying to make it to a bar before 6 p.m. In this case, it also means you have extra time to try both the prickly pear and the habanero and white peach margaritas. Plus, owner Matt Post is providing Tex-Mex classics for soaking up all that tequila, like puffy tacos filled with spicy marinated pork shoulder, chiles rellenos and four riffs on steaming, melty queso.
