Man Checks On Grandma After Hurricane With Pizza Delivery

After Hurricane Matthew hit Florida, one pizza deliveryman came to this family's aid

Saying that 87-year-old Claire Olsen was excited for the arrival of the pizza deliveryman is an understatement.

The resident of Palm Coast, Florida, received a pleasant surprise from a Papa John's employee after Hurricane Matthew tore through her town this week, ABC News reports. Olsen's grandson, who lives across the country in Nebraska, decided to send the pizza deliveryman to her door when he hadn't heard from her in a few days.

Eric Olsen didn't know anyone else in the area, and because his grandmother had lost power, he couldn't get through to her over the phone. Instead, he decided to try an unconventional method to ensure that she was all right.

When deliveryman Lance Tyler arrived at Claire's door and confirmed that she was alive and well, he followed Eric's instructions and used his own phone to call Eric with good news.

Tyler says the expression on her face was "just priceless" and that the delivery helped provide intense relief for the family.

"Police and fire couldn't do it, but Papa John's got there in 30 minutes and put the cell phone to her ear," he joked, according to ABC News.

And, yes, Claire did enjoy that delivery pizza after all was said and done.
