Playful Furniture From Lanzavecchia + Wai

Meet the dining table that doubles as ping-pong table

At first glance, you might think Lanzavecchia + Wai's collection of furniture is rough around the edges—and that's because it physically is, accordion shaped to be more specific. The PLAYplay series is true to its name, featuring a line of tables, benches and cabinets, each designed with a whimsical twist.

The collection looks like the makings of a playhouse: The side and coffee tables called "Hamburgers" actually resemble two bun-like layers, and the dining table doubles as a ping-pong table, so you and your guests can enjoy a nice game of table tennis after dinner. You could even store pong bats and balls in the table's secret sliding drawer—or, you know, silverware, if you're so inclined.

And there's more to the Accordion consoles than meets the eye. Using a "lenticular effect," the wood appears as plain when viewed from one angle and brightly painted from another.

Each piece is carefully crafted in Southeast Asia and made from Indonesian mahogany. The colors are bold and bright, which the designers say "are proudly representative of Southeast Asia—collected, sorted and selected to give life to each piece in the collection." They give us life; that's for sure.
