Removing Corn Silk
Fresh corn is undoubtedly one of the best parts of summer. Removing the stringy corn silk though? One of the worst. Picking off silk strand by strand can be so painstaking that it may even deter folks from cooking corn in the first place. Don't let that pesky silk get the better of you. Here's a brilliant trick from the folks at Fine Cooking for removing corn silk in record time.
Hold an ear of corn over a flame and singe the silk. Once this silk is charred, you can dust it off in one go.
Try this over the burner on your stove. Hold the corn's stem or use a pair of tongs, and rotate the ear so you heat all areas. You won't need to expose the silk to the flame for very long, so the kernels won't actually cook. But the silk will burn up, and then you can wipe it off with one fell swoop.
